Wishing you...

Smiley from millan.netIt's been a fun filled few days here at my home. My sister and her five children came for a visit. We had lots of fun. We exchanged gifts. And now they have gone home. Smiley from millan.net{sniff sniff} While it is nice to have a peaceful home again (things get a bit wild when they're here) I miss them the second they all pile into the car to leave.

My sis and I made two more Santas (above) while she was here and we gifted them to my nieces who live nearby.

My other Santas all found homes as well and all were very well received.

Then, yesterday my son and I went through my collection of Disney antennae balls and finally got the rest of them hooked up on the tree.

We got this one on our last visit to Disneyland...

And here is the one my sis gave me for Christmas....

Of course there's this year's family ornament. (We design/create an ornament each year for our ever growing, humongous family)....

Currently when asked, my son will tell you this is his favorite ornament. Probably because it's  interactive. I found the wooden ornament at Michael's several years ago and painted it ...
See, when you pull the string, Santa "jumps for joy!"....

And lest we forget what Christmas is all about, this wee set is front and center every year on our tree. My sis-in-law gave me this darling Lladro ornament set a number of years ago. I love it! ...Smiley from millan.net

Well, that's it for today. We are headed to out to spend Christmas Eve afternoon with some family and then visit the Christmas Lights at temple square. They have the most wonderful nativity set up. And they always have some Christmas music playing too.Smiley from millan.net

And of course we will need checking on Santa's status to make sure he's still on route to visit us tonight. Smiley from millan.netAs I write this, it looks like he's over Madagascar...

Thank you so much for spending a few minutes with me me today. And for stopping by on occasion through out the year to see my crafty creations. Which ever holiday(s) you celebrate, my wish for you is Joy, Love, Laughter, and many, many Blessings this holiday season.

Fun new box!

Hiya!Smiley from millan.net
Happy Monday to you. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Got some rest. Relaxed a bit. Ready to get going on this beautiful Monday. I was busy creating a new box. I have wanted to do this box for such a long time. I think it was about a year ago I was wondering the aisles of my local Tar-jay and spied a really cool tissue box. Smiley from millan.net

It's been sitting in my craft cabinet waiting for the perfect time to dismantle and recreate cricut-style. Then yesterday, thanks to a bit of a push from Valerie, Smiley from millan.net I finally made some time to sit down and figure it out.

The trick on this one, which takes it from a basic rectangle to a fabulous box, is all in the scoring and folding. It can stand up on its end or lay down on its side.

And as you can see, it's not nearly as big as the original tissue box but it is large enough to hold a standard 2 5/8" ornament.

Ok... I'm outta here. I'm helping to make Gingerbread houses in my son's kinder class today! Smiley from millan.net Yay me!
Have a terrific day!

Ho! Ho! Ho!

Oh how I love to make Christmassy things. Smiley from millan.net Truthfully, I like to make things regardless of the holiday or season or day of the week. But, I gotta say, when I saw this little Santa I knew I needed to make it. That's right. It wasn't a mere want. It was most definitely a NEED. In fact, I think I need to make several.

A few nights after I saw him I called my sister, grabbed my scissors and a stack of plain white copy paper and started creating what I thought I saw on the screen.  It clearly said in April's post that she would be willing to share her pattern, but I was too impatient to wait. I shot off an email to her and then went to work on my own creation. While my first attempt was not exactly the same, I was amazed once I received the file from April how close to the mark I was.

Yesterday my sis and I finally got to the point where we could start making our Santas. She was making hers in San Diego. I was making mine in Phoenix. And we ran our phones and headset batteries dead chatting about our progress the whole time.  Yesterday was mostly about putting the file into SCAL so we could create multiples with efficiency. I mean really... How can you resist this cuteness?? Everyone needs one, right?

And then there's the fun of putting all the details into him.  My sister is a crazy-good graphic artist. She created the banner from scratch on her computer and emailed me the file so I could make one on my end. Smiley from millan.netYes, email is a wonderful thing too! After printing I hand cut the pieces, layered them onto Kraft cardstock and tied them with some fun baker's twine and bells.

Smiley from millan.netI'm totally jealous that my sister had this fun chenille rick-rack to use on her Santas. She purchased it years ago so I'm not able to get my own and living 360 miles apart kind of gets in the way of sharing with her, but I think my ruffled twill tape turned out great.

And did you notice the clear "beading" that I added to Santa's cloak? I made them with hot glue. Yes! That's what I said...  Hot glue beads!

I was pretty happy with my creation (singular) until I saw my sister's two Santas! Wow! That girl moves fast! Aren't they adorable? It's true. I taught her everything she knows. . . hahahaha! I crack myself up! Seriously so glad we're best buds now cuz the fights Smiley from millan.net when we were younger..? Ouch!

That's it for now friends. Hope you're all have a fantabulous weekend planned. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do tomorrow but I am pretty sure I have another Santa creation in my future.
Special thanks to April at SecondSister for sharing her wonderful idea! Love it!!! Smiley from millan.net
Thanks for stopping by. Toodles!

Going Postal!

Hey y'all....Smiley from millan.net
Yesterday was one of those days for me!  I had my day planned. I was already with my ever-growing To-Do list to get out the door as soon as my son was off to school. I came to a screeeeeching halt when my car wouldn't start.  ACK!  Smiley from millan.net What I thought was a minor speed bump turned into me being trapped at home all day. Hubby's car battery wasn't strong enough to jump-start my car battery. Then the tow truck couldn't pick up the car until almost 11am. By the time the car place was able to diagnose the problem... Yeah, sure! charge me $45 to tell me what I already know. Thanks car dude! ... and replace the battery I was not able to finagle a ride over to get my car back until after 5pm. I literally walked in at closing time to retrieve my car.  (Phew!)Smiley from millan.net

The bad news, I'm $140 poorer than I was yesterday. Smiley from millan.net The good news is: my car works again and I was able to get some things prepped and ready to go postal today!  Yay!Smiley from millan.net
Not too long ago the house album I created looked like the large paper mache house pictured above, center.  Now, it's all painted and papered and loaded up with family pictures for my parents for Christmas. I've shown you pictures of the outside of the house, but here is the inside.
Inside left --
Inside right --

And the front of the little tag (ok, maybe it's not so little) that is pictured in the photo at the beginning of this post explains what this house is all about to my sweet parents... They live about 800 miles away and we are not traveling to see them this Christmas...  and on the back of the tag are the directions on how to close it back up again.

Along with the box is being shipped today are 40 Christmas cards and a couple Christmas ornaments.   I am feeling so much better now that I'm seeing these packages leave my house. Smiley from millan.net  I was feeling so behind. Now I can breathe a little easier. Special thanks to my sweet hubby who has taken them all to the shipping place. Love you!  Smiley from millan.net  And I also want to give Kathy a huge cyber-hug for sharing her wonderful ideas. Smiley from millan.netYou rock, sistah!
