As promised...

Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net Those of you that have been in contact with me over the past year thru the Cricut message board and my blog know that I have offered up tutorials on the blog and also videos for those of you that like to see things in action instead of in still photos. Well, it's time to share some more info on the online Design Studio Classes I've been mentioning.

I have joined forces with the ever-fabulous Diane of Capadia Designs and we have been cooking-up Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net an online LIVE classroom style experience that I think you ALL will want to participate in.

We both have been working with DS since its introduction so we're pretty experienced with the ins-n-outs of using the software. Our goal in creating these online classes is to help you become a Design Studio Whiz Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net (or Goddess Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net if that's what you prefer) {*wink*} And, since we are located on opposite coasts of the USA so we hope to be able to cover class times for the various time zones more conveniently.

Diane and I, and a handful of volunteer students, have done some trial sessions and we are very happy with the classroom environment we've set up. Fees for lessons and classes will vary based on the type of class (group or one-on-one), the length and the topic. We've worked out scenarios where classes will be taught by just one of us, while others will be Trouble Shooting Clinics where we might both be in attendance to help you figure out DS issues.
We hope to be done with our testing very soon so that we can get to the fun part!Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net

Q: Carole asked about classes being available in the UK....
A:(Sorry Carole, your profile is private so I couldn't email you directly.) We realize that many of our blog followers that have questions are around the world, and thus, in different times zones. Our hope is that we will be able to offer up classes at times that work with your schedules too. I appreciate that not everyone in the UK will be available for a class that begins at 1am your time. I know that might deter me from signing up. We will do our best to work out a compromise so that we can schedule a class on a day and time that works for you too. Be sure to let me know what kind of classes you're interested in and days/times that work best so that we can make it happen!

Eugene the Jeep

Life has kept me busy these past few days. I have oddles of projects and less-than-normal craft time to complete them. My son has been sick (yes, again) and the boys that he carpools with also have been sick which means I get to drive more or my son doesn't go to school. So, I've been working remotely a LOT more than normal too. Good practice for next year, I guess since the two boys will be attending different schools and I currently don't know of anyone to share driving duties with for next year.Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net

I finished this last night. Gwen asked if I could help her and create Eugene the Jeep (from Popeye) in DS. I've had the request for some time since I have been so busy. She emailed me the other day and said she had ordered SCAL and that if it would be easier to create it for SCAL she'd be happy to take it in that format! YAY!

It wasn't like *Snap* it's done because I'm still learning InkscapeFree Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net but it was MUCH easier than trying to recreate in DS. And, it's resize-able. BONUS!!

Hope you are all having a great day!
Keep checking back. I've not forgotten those of you who have asked for online classes. I'm still working on it. Just tying up all the important details. Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net I know you'll all be doing a happy dance too when you hear about it.

Toodles! And thanks Gwen for being SOOOOO patient with me. I hope you like your design.

Candyland Party

A few months ago I was approached and asked if I could help put together some items for a baby girl's first birthday. The theme they chose was Candyland.

Using a picture of the game box, I came up with an original concept using the peppermint/starburst mint style candy as the accent piece which would tie all of the pieces together. I used it as an element on the invite, as the shape of the placemat and as an accent on the Thank you notes.

But then we decided to swap out a gumdrop shape on the invite instead. (I gave her two styles to choose from).

They also wanted to have a bouquet for the table. The cupcake came straight off the cartridge but the others were all pieced together using shapes.

They told me that they loved the results but I'm still waiting to see pictures of how it all turned out. I hope they email me some pictures. I'd love to see it all together in paper format.

A Quick Note...

First a thank you to all of you who have been patiently waiting for the next post on my blog. I have been so busy with other things lately I haven't had a chance to finish anything. Until tonight.
In the middle of working on a completely different project this idea popped into my head. Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net I love the cute sticky note holders made of coasters but wanted something kinda sleek and cool. I happened to have some plexy taking up space in my closet full of crafty bits....

{Bop! Insert V-8 moment here!}

I used my Bind-It-All to create a plexy note holder.Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net Yes, it's true. I did a happy dance when I was I finished it.

I used my handy dandy box cutter and a metal ruler to cut the plexy down to 3 1/2" x 3 1/2". Then inserted the pieces into my BIA to punch the holes and to bind them together with the BIA wires. Scraps of some of my favorite papers were used to decorate the cover. I just adhered them with my ATG adhesive. Also adhered the ribbon using the ATG so that it wouldn't slip off and tied it in a knot at the front. The swirls and dots were hand-drawn on using Crystal Effects. And the skittles were also adhered using the Crystal Effects. Super fast. Super easy. Super COOL! Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net

I didn't mention it before, but there is some Cricut DS on this project. The scrap of striped paper had been previously cut with the wavy rickrack cut from Plantin Schoolbook for another project. I trimmed it off and used the negative on this project. I love it when a plan comes together!

Thanks again for hanging in there with me. I hope it won't be another week before I post again. I have been super busy putting together the first online class. Thank you all for your feedback. I think we'll be going straight into projects unless I hear there is a need for the basics.
Enjoy your weekend!

Online training Anyone?

Ok....I haven't given up on the local craft store classes but I know many of you have commented that you live TOO far away to travel to my class. So I've been researching some options and I think I've come up with the technology to do an online training class. Obviously I would like to do a class that would allow people to ask questions, participate in some way, so that I'm not the only one talking.

So here is what I need to know:
(1) Topics of discussion?
(2) Best dates/times that work for your schedule, and how long should the class be?
(3) What's it worth to you? I will have to pay for the technological service to make this happen. I'm not interested in ripping people off but I would like to hear from you how much you think a training class should cost. Should it include free files.

UGH....

Well, for those waiting to hear how my first class went. It didn't. It got cancelled. Actually, I found it had been cancelled on Thursday when I called to see how many people had signed up and the lady told me no one did. Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net Maybe I was hoping 10 people would walk into the store on Friday and all sign up. In any case, it was good thing the class was scheduled, but it was also bad.

Good because it's my son's 4th birthday on Thursday (Happy Birthday kiddo!), and since hubby has been out of town on business all week, we were able to celebrate today.

It's been bad because even though I didn't think I cared that much about it... subconsciously it seems to have killed my creativity mojo. I'll get it back, eventually, but for right now I don't have any finished projects to share. Sorry.

So anyway.... Hugs! and thank you for all your kind words and support. You guys are the greatest! And we'll have to wait and see if any one signs up for any of my other classes.

Hope you're having a great weekend.
Ok. Time for me to send out some files to those of you that have requested them. Toodles...

Post-Easter bunny box

Yeah, I know. Easter is over. Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.netBut my friend Carol asked for a bunny box and even provided a picture for inspiration.

You'll have to click over to her site to see all of the Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.netpictures she has posted of the finished box. She took pictures from several angles so you can see that it really is a box and not just a shape.

How cute is this???

Spring break is over

Hi all!
Life has been so busy for me lately. Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net I've been feeling a little like this lately, but I'm starting to catch up. I am still juggling a few projects and I hope to have a completed one posted soon. Today I am at the library while my son is at school so I am not home to work on the one I had hoped to finish yesterday but wasn't able to. (Fingers crossed I'll be able to complete it tomorrow.)
Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.netSo instead of letting my blog continue to go without an update again, I thought I'd give you all a quick Spring Break Trip Review. Aren't you so lucky!?

While hubby worked (thanks honey! Love you!) our son and I jumped in the car and took a drive out to San Diego to visit family. My sister's kids also had Spring Break so they were able to come play with us.

On Monday, we decided to go to the zoo. Along with a buh-jillion other people I might add. LOL The kids had a great time, but it was hotter than we expected so after just a few hours the kids were burned out and all wanted to be carried around the zoo. {Uh, no!} For those of you not familiar with the San Diego Zoo it is very hilly. So walking the zoo can be quite a work out. If you ever go, make sure you wear good walking shoes. And if you have a stroller for your little one, take it!

I tried to get a picture of my son out front by the giant elephant topiary (I guess that's what it's called) out in front of the Zoo entrance, ...

... but he was NOT interested. Hahahahaha! Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net

My 4 month old nephew Jaxson had the royal treatment .... He road in either his stroller or carrier so he had a front seat for everything. And he likes having his picture taken... of course, it might be that he likes the shiney silver thing stuck in his face and wants to see what it is upclose and personal. LOL

Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net Have I told you my sister is Super Woman?? She has 5 children and does it all! I am wiped out after just spending a few hours in her presence. I don't know how she does it. You rock girl!

Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.netTuesday was another beautiful day. We went to Balboa Park to walk around and partake of the "Free First Tuesday" entry to the Rueben H. Fleet Science Museum. While waiting in line I got a quick pic of he crew by the fountain. It's so worth the time. The whole museum is all hands-on and is set up for kids of all ages. We all had a great time. When it came time to leave, none of them wanted to go especially my sister's 4 year old son. He kicked up a huge fit because he was so sad to be leaving. I think he cried for a solid half hour before finally falling asleep. {Phew!}

I took these pics from the balcony of the apartment where I stayed while in San Deigo. It was so lovely. I loved to listen to the ocean waves wash up on the sand. It was so peaceful and relaxing.
(looking north)

(looking south)
Monday as I drove my son over to the carpool spot I checked my rearview mirror and caught this view. I HAD to snap a quick shot with my camera. (sorry for the blur). Isnt' he just the coolest kid on the block? LOL

Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net Ok... hang in there. Don't give up on me just yet. I'll be back with more cut files and projects to share soon. Promise.
Have a great day!

More Blog Candy...

Thanks to Susan for this tip..... Carole is celebrating her blogaversary and is offering up some fun blog candy ... worldwide shipping so anyone can enter!!! :o) Good luck! Hope you win!

Where or where ....???

Sorry kids... I'm out of town. I meant to put this message up earlier but it was a bit of a spontaneous trip. I brought my laptop but I've been too busy or too tired to even turn it on.

For those of you that have requested files, I'll get them to you soon. Promise.
For those wondering where I'm at..... My son's Spring Break and my sister's kids' Spring Break had an overlapping week. Soooooo I took a quick trip over to San Diego for a few days.

Monday we went to the zoo with a million other people. (yes, it was that busy!)

And Tuesday we went to Balboa Park with a million other people (yes, it's true!) It was free first Tuesday at several of the museums and we weren't the only ones that had the idea to take advantage of it. We went to the Reuben H. Fleet Science Museum. All the kids had a great time and some did not want to leave (crying all the way to the car when we left).

Anyway, I'll be driving home soon and my son's spring break will be over and everything will be back to normal... or mostly normal. :0)
Have a great day!!
