Dumbo in SCAL

I've been a bit MIA lately. Learning some new skills. I found this cute picture of Dumbo online:
And I was able to create an SVG file so I can cut it with SCAL. Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net

I know it's not much but it took about 10 hours to make this. I hope I get faster other wise I don't know if I'll ever try anything else. LOL Who knows, maybe this is just the first of many new adventures into the world of SCAL.
Special thanks to Dan's and Susan's tutorials and Heather for answering my questions!

  1. Way to go. I love SCAL, my dear hubby does all my designs so I get the fun part of cutting the design out and putting everything together. Don't give up you will love the freedom it gives you.

  2. Wow, Jen, you just learned Inkscape!! Now you will be able to design even more things. Good for you. Anybody tries to teach me, I get this glossy look in my eyes and everything goes over my head. Looking forward to seeing more amazing designs.

  5. Jen, this is an amazing first effort with SCAL. I have the program and have never used it. I still struggle with DS. Without you I wouldn't use DS either. Keep designing :-) for us. Thanks for your work again.

  8. Jen, I love your blog. I've been following it a little, but just invested in SCAL myself (don't have DS except the trial version so far) but I'm so impressed that you made such a complicated image already. Way to go. He is super cute. TFS!

  10. Jen, I would love the file for Dumbo. I don't think I will ever learn to use inkscape. I have only been using designs that anyone is willing to share for SCAL. I have been watching Dan's videos but still not able to do anything. You did a great job. mjsmith39@msn.com

  11. Jen and SCAL? I have been on the fence about SCAL for the longest time now, but so wary to take the leap because of all the scary things they say it will do to my DS program? How true are the rumors? Is it possible to have one and still continue to run the other? Susan Bluerobot doesn't seem to have any problems at all... please tell us more!
BTW, your Dumbo is absolutely adorable!!!

  12. Hi Jen,

  13. I love it that you are trying out SCAL. I have it but have not gotten into the design part. You are so talented with Design Studio that I can not wait to see what you do with SCAL. Don't listen to Susan (above) I say Oh, Yes SCAL !!!! I have the baby Cricut and Expression so I use the baby only for SCAL as I use it a lot for fonts...(Susan and I are friends and I bet she will be a SCAL designer when she sees what it will do)

  14. WOW!!! This is fabulous!! You can use scal, even if you have ds on your pc?

  15. Who doesn't love Disney characters, especially Dumbo!
    He is so sweet.
Would like to have the SCAL file.

This is another thing I need to make time to try again. I've seen Dan's videos - is there a way to save them so I can try his directions on my home computer (no internet there)?

    Thanks.

  35. I think its awful that someone referred to SCAL as "the dark side." For people like me who have a Macintosh computer, we have no other option and SCAL is AWESOME! CDS does not work on a Mac.

Thank you for sharing. I would LOVE to get a copy of this SCAL file. Please e-mail it to LEMPhotography@gmail.com

    Thanks again!

It's Christmas Day and I just got a Cricut Expression and Scal 2. I can't wait to try it. Last night (Christmas Eve) my family members were all playing a game called Idiosyncrasies. I one point I was required to draw Dumbo and exclaimed that this was a favorite movie of mine as a child. I would love to try cutting him out and sending him to my grandson for his first birthday. Thanks so much for sharing. BTW - I won that round in the game last night ;o)
