Bucket bag

The fair Fayrai found this darling idea at Mels blog. I enlarged her template to fit the 12x12 mat a little better. I love the size! Large enough for cards AND a treat! :o)

I love Faye's version too. The papers are beautiful and the flower charm colored to match... Nice touch!

Thanks again Fayrai for not only finding such a cute idea but also testing out the cut file!

Window box with lid

Another Fayrai find...!! Katie Renz made this really neat paper ornament which required a specially designed box to go with it, of course. It has a window to show off the ornament hanging in side, a lid to keep it safe and a handle for carrying.

In this file, I put the window on a separate tab so it's optional. Also, please note that the window for the decorative paper layer (if you use it) is a different size than the one used to cut the window in the base layer. Due to the size of the box you could easily put a handful of cards inside if you didn't have an ornament.

Once again, Fayrai tested my cut file to see how it would work. Another beautiful job! See it here in purple.
THANK YOU Faye!!

The picture below may help with figuring out which panel goes on which side of the box/lid if you cut out the decorative paper panels to decorate the box:

Mini Tote

This little bag/box/tote was originally created by Nancy Morgan for ScorePal. She used two 6x6 papers to put this bag together. With Cricut and DS, I used her idea and assumed that the user would have a 12x12 paper (Why cut a 12x12 in half just to tape it back together again?)
An the amazing Fayrai tested the cut for me! You can see the bag pictured here. (It's the striped bag.) Cute, huh??

2-4-6-8...who do we appreciate?

Hahahaha! I wonder why that popped into my head?? Maybe it's because of the name of this box/bag. "2-5-7-10 box" by Jenn Balcer.

Fayrai found this on Splitcoast. I made a cut file for it, of course. I'm sort of quarantined with strep throat, what else am I gonna do??? LOL Fayrai made it in pink! It's darling! Check it out here.

Tall purse

This cutie of a purse was also scouted out by my girl Fayrai!! (Love her!) She found the design at Mels blog (love her too!).

Ok. You have to click over to Fayrai's blog and check out her newest find/creation! She sent the link to Mel's jeweled purse box to me and of course I had to make the cut file for her.

~ It's a GREAT bag!! ~

Faye's version is as beautiful as anything she has created. I love it!! It reminds me of some of those bajillion-dollar "hobo" bags available at those shee-shee boutiques. Oooh la la dawling! Won't your gift look stunning in one of these?! {Said in my best French accent... *smirk*}

Deborah posted a picture of this cute little purse on her blog. She created it in spring colors and her daughter immediately took a liking to it. Good thing she got some pictures of it while it was still in her posession. :o) Thanks for sharing Deborah!!

Ooooh and Alice made a darling chocolate and pink bag with little George flowers. So darling! Check it out!! Thanks for sharing Alice!
Alice made another bag and a matching shoe to complete the set! It's so cute! Thanks for sharing Alice!

There's more!

Fayrai also found this cute box! Another Mels Stampz tote/box. This one is 3x3. The one found on Mel's site has a small strap closure. Then Maria Bell made the tote with a full flap closure. She gave Mel credit for it even though I couldn't find the exact box on her site. (I'm sure it's there hiding in the archives.) Both are darling. You can see them at their respective sites AND you can see them at Miss Fayrai's site! She tested the cut files I made. :o) Isn't Fayrai a gem?!!

The black and white bag is the 3x3 with the strap closure and pocket.
The orange bag is the the 3x3 with flap closure.

According to the information listed in the sites these little beauties can hold up to eight 3x3 note cards and envelopes each. NICE!

GIFT cards

Hubby needed a couple more cards. He is giving a couple gift cards as gifts. So, I thought about it and came up with these...

First up looks like a standard card.

but when you open it up the card is securely held in its own slot

The second is a pocket card. ** Susan reminded me that I had seen this idea in the Paper Crafts magazine December 2008 issue. Thanks Susan!** It is sort of hard to tell from the photo. It's supposed to be an ornament with a tag.

When you pull on the ring at the the top the gift card slides out.

Here are the two pieces separated

Both cards have a lot of dimension to them and glitter... my photography stinks! Sorry. :(

I wish you all the Merriest of Christmases and a 2009 full of blessings!!

All I need is a Tiara and a Cape...

My sis found this cutest necklace at Signals. The sterling cape charm reads,
"I am fairly certain that given a cape and a nice tiara,
I could save the world!"
Come on ... admit it! We all have a bit of superwoman in us. Hey guys (I know there are a few of you that stop by to see my blog), you may not need the tiara but you have a superman hidden in you too.

Well, invention is the mother of necessity, right? My sis didn't have the money to buy the necklace for her friend for Christmas so we created a solution....

My sister's artistic skills (She is the graphic designer!)
+ my limited SCAL and Inkscape skills
+ my Cricut
___________+ Shrink plastic___________
= a cool looking keyring!

Yes, I said SCAL. (Thank you Sally!) I have a very little skill with it and Inkscape but I am schooling myself here and there when I have time THANKS to the ever fabulous Susan "Blue Robot" who has some wonderfully helpful tutorials on her blog. Thank you Susan!!

Have you ever used shrink plastic before?? I hadn't. This was a first for me. I had seen some really fun shrink plastic creations and always thought, I wanna do that! It wasn't until I receive the cutest little RAK from Carol which included some shrink plastic items in it that pushed me to purchased some from Charlie to give it a try.

I'm still blown away that something so big shrinks down to so small ... The original artwork was nearly a full 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper.

I was a little disappointed that even after four cutting passes with my Expression (Depth: 6, Pressure: Max) my bug still didn't cut through the plastic and I had to do some handy work with my xacto knife. Now, I only have the standard blade and housing to cut with. Have any of you readers that have used shrink plastic with your bugs had success getting your bug to cut through the plastic? Do you think the Deep Cut blade would be better? I've hesitated to purchase it but maybe I've finally found a reason to get it and the new blade housing. Let me know!!

Here's the final product. I colored it using Versamark ink in clear and my Stampin Up! pastels in various colors. I shrunk the tiara with my heat gun because it is small but put the cape on a cookie sheet in the oven set to 300 degrees (F) for about 4-5 minutes and it came out perfectly!

It's all boxed up and ready to go in the mail tomorrow to my sis in CA so she will hopefully have it by Wed to give to her friend for Christmas (fingers crossed that USPS Priority Mail is moving at normal speed and not bogged down due to holiday madness).

(**The .scut file is not available since the artwork is not mine. Sorry**)

Ugh.... I don't like being sick :o(

Forgive me folks if you have to wait a bit longer for your files or my next creation.... I need to take a small break. I have caught an icky cold and I need to get this headache to go away before I can do anything else. I'll be back as soon as possible. Promise!
Enjoy your Sunday!

We Three Kings....

Are you familiar with Claire Brennan? If not, you might want to check out her blog WaltzingMouse. She's a wonderfully creative lady from Ireland and I love how she puts things together.

Several months ago she made these three-sided boxes that she named her Three Kings boxes. WOW! Talk about knock your socks off! SusanW from the cricut message board asked me to take Claire's box and turn it into a DS file. After she was able to cut it she decided that in order to fit a small lotion or perfume bottle inside it might be nice to have it be a bit wider. So I reworked the cut file for a wider box.

Susan posted her pictures of the smaller boxes that she made using the cut file on the message board. Thank you so much for sharing your creations Susan. I think they turned out very nice.

Boxes are approximately 2 1/2" wide and 5 1/4" tall below the "crown" or 8" total height.
As soon as we know that the larger box works I will make it available ... stay tuned.

Thanks Bobbi for the thread. :o)

Stay tuned.... big announcement coming!

No! I didn't get hired by PC. LOL (I guess it's not that big)

Can you guess what it is?
Q: Lori asked.... "Did you get chosen for the Cricut Army??!!"
A: Nope.. not chosen for the "army". Seriously, have they chosen anyone for those positioned they were going to hire for???

I guess I need to alter my post Title. It's not as big as me getting a job with PC or any other company. Still just a stay-at-home mom. Did I say "just". We stay at home moms work hard.
LOL

Oh, and No, I'm not getting my own cart or getting paid for my designs.

Q: Wanda said... " NO!!!!!!I CAN'T GUESSSO PLEASE DON'T LEAVE US HANGING TO LONG"
A: No worries... You'll all get an email this afternoon. (Hint hint) ... or maybe this evening.

Q: Joanne asked... "Are you going to have a baby?" And Donna said... "You're Pregnant!"
A:
No, that possibility is long since past. Seriously, even medical intervention didn't work for us. But thanks! :o)

Q: Christi asked.... "Does it have to do with Cricuting?"
A: YES!

Q: Tammy... "you got a new computer?"
A: Uh... no. Although, when my PC locked up this afternoon and I had to pull the battery out to shut it down I thought maybe I might need one. {phew!}

Heheheh! Oh Kathy... you are good! (*wink*)

Patience dear Wanda.... some of us are on the West coast (It's still afternoon here.)

Fayrai found another super cute "purse" style bag or box to put A2 size cards in.
Once again, I was able to put the cut file together without too much of a problem but was unable to cut it out. Fayrai to the rescue!! Woohoo!! :o) She did a really nice rendition of this cute little Tote style purse which is big enough to hold a handful of 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" cards.

Thanks again FAYRAI!!!

TopNote is in a separate file from the purse. Please let me know which files you need when requesting.

Feedback requested.... do you mind that my 'curvy' topnote creation leaves a gap at the top of the purse or should I make alterations specifically for this purse so the gap is less noticeable??

Tutorial: Notepad cover with Pen loop

Several of you have requested this file. I think the assembly is pretty self explanitory but just in case I have a quick tutorial for those of you that aren't 100% sure what to do with it.

.
Cut the cover piece out and score it. For information on how I use my cricut to score see the end this post.

You will want to fan fold along your score lines. From the outside of the cover it will be mountain (point out), valley (point in), mountain.

:o( Sorry about the blurriness. My camera is not really good at zooming in for detail.

Now, reverse the pen loop's center fold line so it is sticking out along the spine of the notepad cover. (*Again, blurry pic... my fault not your eyes going bad on you)

I used a scrap left over from my 12x12 paper to make a pocket and attached it to the left side panel. Then I attached some super sticky/redliner tape to the spine. I enhanced the scorelines in the picture below so you could see them really well. You want to put your glue or super sticky tape between the 2nd and 3rd score lines and ONLY at the top and bottom NOT in the middle cut area. If you used tape like I did, remove the red backing. Fold the notepad holder closed along the 3rd score line and adhere.

Now, you can either attach your notepad with super double stick tape or glue ~or~ you can do like I did and use another scrap left over from the 12x12 paper and make a loop or sleeve (I guess that's the right word for it) so you can slide your note pad in and out as needed. When the note pad is finished, you can put a new one in instead of glue a new one in or throw it away. I made mine 5 3/16" wide and and 1 1/2" tall. I put the tiniest bead of glue along the left and right edges and adhered it approximately an inch from the top. (see the "argyle" strip on the right side in the pic below).

To make sure there wouldn't be any problems with sliding the notepad in and out of the sleeve/loop I turned the notepad over and marked 1/4" in from the left and 1/4" in from the right at the bottom. Then with some scissors I trimmed diagonally from the mark to the top

Ta-da! Lots of space to slide the back piece of the notepad into position without ripping your notepad cover.

I added ribbon and some details to the front, put a pen in the loop and Voila! All done!

Another look at the cover...

Gimme a holler if you need any further explanation.

*** Update: I just made a 2nd notepad cover and realized that the pen loop was a little too small for the pen I decided to put in the loop so I've reconfigured the cover a bit. If you come up with the same problem and want the bigger loop just post a message requesting the updated file and I'll send it to you.
If you haven't seen them yet hop over to the Cricut message board where Debbie put some pictures of the two notebooks she made using this file. Click here. THANKS Debbie! They're great!!
Debbie created some more notepads. You can click here to see them. Thanks again Debbie!!!

pop up card - for the Golfer

Lois requested a pop up card using the freestanding popup style card I created at Halloween but this time she wanted a golf theme. She provided a picture of what she had in mind, but the person free hand cut her version and of course don't we all want our bugs to do all the work?

I created the golf bag with clubs and a strap and a shadow base layer using George to replace the tag/coffin from the original file.
The grass along the front is from Plantin Schoolbook.
The golf ball and tee came from the file I created a while back
Lois created her own little PDDU golfer. (So cute!)

I love it Lois! You've inspired me to FIND THE TIME to create my own. THANKS so much for sharing!

Another TopNote box.

From what I can tell, this one originated with Shannon Griebe. Can't link to the exact blog because I'm not a Stampin Up Demo (that door is locked to me *sniff sniff*) But several people have posted their versions of the box. And Becky of InkingIdaho posted some dimensions but I couldn't make them work right. So... I made my own using hers as a jumping off point.

Fayrai tested the box using only a single TopNote (See the darker green box?) THANKS Faye!! We're both on the fence about the box part of the box not being big enough. What do you think?? I'm happy to make it bigger but since I'm not able to cut it at this time I'm dependant on others.

Once again, TopNote is a separate file from the box. If you need both files, please request both files. Thanks!

Minty fresh!

Another Fayrai find.... this little window box holds two peppermint patties which are decorated with scalloped labels.
I need to go digging through my emails to figure out where we got inspiration on this one. I can't remember. Anyway... Pics on Fayrai's blog (see the picture with the two small green window boxes? That's this box!)

Once again, box and labels are in separate files. Please request both files if needed.

Top Note box - book style

This is a super cute box. I'm at the library... far far away from my cricut so I can't cut it. (Any volunteers?)
Anyway, found this box on a couple different blogs. Don't know WHO came up with it first so no one to give it credit.
Here are two samples I found:

Please note when requesting this file, the box and the topnote are in two separate files. If you already have the topnote you don't need it again. If you need both files, please request both files.

OH and because Fayrai is the greatest!.... she has made a sample for us to all Ooooh and Aaaah over. Check it out!! THANKS Faye!! Hugs!!

S'mores to go!

So... I have a new friend from the Cricut board. She goes by Fayrai (Hiya girl!) and she will find a super cute project online and send it to me and say... "Can you make this in DS?" Of course!

Come to think of it, she knows my weakness for boxes and all thing cute and packagey (yes, I said packagey... you know, as in I need something cute to package this gift in?)

InkingIdaho is a favorite haunt (for both of us). Faye asked if I could make her a S'mores kit. So I did! Now, although Becky's creation inspired my DS creation, there were no measurements so I had to go into my pantry and measure some graham crackers to make this... and guess on the size of the Hershey bar.

Fayrai made one. It turned out great!! You can see her pics on her blog. THANKS for sharing Fayrai!!

Just saw another version of this type of box. The person put cocoa in one pocket and made the other pocket flat and put a gift card in it. Great idea!!

They said it couldn't be done....

Hehehehe! I guess I proved them wrong. ;o)

BusyMomof6 was looking for this card made using DS. Linda was able to make a version using SCAL. I was able to make one using DS. Busymom was going to send me some dimensions of the one that she had at her office but I was impatient and made this one on my own with out them.

Ok... here's the updated information from BusyMom and some more pictures. My original card is a bit smaller than her 6 1/4" diameter card (mine is only 5" diameter). The larger card would require the Expression so I think I'll definitely keep the 5" one for those that have a baby bug. (Sorry, you'll still have to get your hands on Plantin Schoolbook.)

Heheheh! Check out Neva's cute little froggy version to this card/ornament! So cute! Thanks Neva for sharing!

Shell also posted a cute ornament/card on her blog. And today she posted a great pic-tutorial for those interested on how to put these ornaments together. THANKS SO MUCH Shell!!
